Wirelessly powering PC monitor and peripherals through 'true wireless power' - An RF generator transmits up to 100W of power without wires.
Groundbreaking Wireless Power System
YouTube creator DIY Perks has teamed up with Etherdyne Technologies to introduce a revolutionary wireless power system, turning a four-foot by two-foot desk into a cable-free zone. With this setup, he manages to operate a complete workstation, including a wireless mouse, keyboard, speakers, microphone, and even a wireless monitor, all without any cables. This amazing feat is made possible by a flexible wire loop generating up to 100 watts of wireless power.
According to Matthew Perks, the brains behind DIY Perks, Etherdyne's Wire-Free Power Zone kit resembles the wireless chargers commonly found on phones. These chargers operate at a frequency between 110 and 205 kHz, producing approximately 15 watts of power. But the real magic of Etherdyne's solution lies in its transmission frequency of 6.78 MHz, allowing it to deliver up to 100 watts of power at distances of up to three feet, without the need for perfect coil alignment.
To prove the authenticity of his wireless peripherals, Perks demonstrated that his wireless mouse, speakers, microphone, and even a heated mug were genuinely wireless by removing their batteries and replacing them with the wireless power receiving loops. He also modified a 24-inch monitor by building a custom base that integrated two 7-watt power loops, enabling him to ditch the monitor's power cord entirely.
The DIY Perks project is just the tip of the iceberg for Etherdyne Technologies' Wire-Free Power Zone tech. Although it isn't commercially available yet, you can request an Evaluation Kit from the Etherdyne website for those interested in experimenting with the technology. Despite potential health concerns about the radio frequency the wireless tech pushes out, the company claims that the Eval Kit has already received FCC and CE certification, meeting safety regulations.
If you're eager to try wireless power tech but can't wait to build your own desk, consider purchasing the AirBrite Universal Wireless Lighting System, which delivers lighting solutions to miniature builds using similar technology. Etherdyne also plans to launch a Kickstarter for a sit/stand desk that implements the technology, similar to how Perks does it.
Beyond consumer applications, Etherdyne also highlights promising commercial, industrial, and medical applications for its technology, which could pave the way towards true wireless power. The company isn't alone in this quest, as researchers have already managed to harvest low amounts of energy from radio and Wi-Fi signals. The claimed 100-watt capacity of the Wire-Free Power Zone technology could revolutionize wireless charging and power, moving us one step closer to the future of wireless power.
