Investigators identify parties engaged in locating radio dead zone - Who's on board to assist in locating the hidden radio portal?

In an effort to evaluate the quality and coverage of mobile networks across Germany, the Federal Network Agency has launched a nationwide mobile network measurement week. The initiative, titled "Germany Checks Its Network," will run from May 22 to June 1, and residents of Rhineland-Palatinate are encouraged to participate.

To take part, participants can download the broadband measurement app from the Federal Network Agency and use their smartphones to record mobile network coverage in their area. The data collected will be anonymized and utilized to enhance mobile network quality and improve the dead zone map of the Gigabit Grundbuch.

The real-life measurements gathered through this week-long event are expected to provide a more accurate picture of mobile network usage compared to official figures provided by telecommunications companies, according to Rhineland-Palatinate's Minister of Digitalization, Dörte Schall (SPD).

Last year, Rhineland-Palatinate conducted a similar mobile network measurement week, with over 2,800 people participating and providing nearly 1.6 million valid measurement points. While 95% of these measurement points showed 4G or 5G coverage, about 3.2% showed only 2G coverage, and around 1.7% showed no network availability.

Regional initiatives like this one and national programs aimed at closing gaps in coverage are part of Germany's broader efforts to enhance mobile connectivity nationwide. The government aims for nationwide coverage with uninterrupted wireless voice and data services by 2026.

By participating in the mobile network measurement week, residents of Rhineland-Palatinate can help improve their local mobile network coverage and contribute to the country's goal of having a high-quality mobile network for all.

  • Relevant enrichment data: The Mobile Network Measurement Week, supported by zafaco GmbH, has been conducted in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate in 2023 and 2024. This initiative involves collecting data from millions of measurement points to identify dead zones and assess 4G/LTE and 5G availability. The data from these weeks can provide insights into how coverage has evolved over time. The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport has also been working on a mobile communications funding program aimed at closing gaps in coverage. While improvements in Rhineland-Palatinate are not detailed, such initiatives are part of broader efforts to enhance mobile connectivity nationwide. The government aims for nationwide coverage with uninterrupted wireless voice and data services by 2026.

Participants in Rhineland-Palatinate's mobile network measurement week can use this opportunity not only to improve their local network coverage but also contribute to the nation's goal of having a high-quality mobile network for all. Furthermore, the data collected from this initiative, such as the number of measurement points and network coverage, can be used to enrich discussions on vocational training programs in digital technology, as these programs are essential for the advancement of lifestyle in the growing field of general-news, especially considering the implementation of community policy focused on improving mobile connectivity across Germany.
