Walmart introduces Walmart Restored program to help customers save money

In an effort to offer customers a new way to save, retail giant Walmart announced the launch of its refurbishment program, Walmart Restored, on Friday. All products included in the program have been professionally inspected, tested, and cleaned, and come with a 90-day free return or replacement guarantee, according to a company announcement.

The Walmart Restored program is now available online and will be rolled out in select stores this fall. The initiative aims to extend the life of products and reduce waste by offering refurbished items. During a time of high inflation, this provides consumers with another opportunity for discount shopping.

Walmart has been working with suppliers and sellers to refurbish products in the past, but the Walmart Restored program simplifies the shopping experience. "In a year when customers are looking for ways to save money, like-new refurbished products have become an increasingly popular way to cut down on costs without sacrificing quality," Michael Mosser, general manager of Walmart Marketplace, said in a statement.

Products are inspected and tested to ensure they have no visible cosmetic imperfections when held 12 inches away. They may be packaged in a generic box, but include the necessary accessories for a new product. Customers can shop for items by category, such as small appliances, tablets, computers, and televisions, or by brand, like KitchenAid, Apple, and Samsung, on the Walmart Restored section of its website.

Only a select group of Walmart sellers is eligible to participate in the program. The company ensures these sellers meet the highest standards of customer service.

Several other retailers have introduced similar refurbishment initiatives in recent years. EBay, Nike, Timberland, and Lululemon all have programs aimed at reselling refurbished or lightly used goods. Habitat for Humanity ReStore, which operates over 1,000 retail locations, stands out as a formal restoration-oriented retail initiative comparable to Walmart's refurbishment program.

In related news, Walmart provided a forecast update last week where it expects operating income to fall 13% to 14% for the second quarter and 11% to 13% for the year.
