Volkswagen has made a bold move in the electric vehicle market with the unveiling of the ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice. This zero-emissions vehicle is a tribute to the 1990 Golf Fire & Ice, a cult classic inspired by Willy Bogner's 1986 ski film Fire and Ice.
The ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice is not just an electric vehicle; it's a nod to the style, energy, and soundtracks of the 1980s, brought to the streaming age. Volkswagen's Chief Brand Officer, Christine Wolburg, aims to bring back the lifestyle the marque once represented and anchor it in today's pop culture.
To achieve this, Volkswagen collaborated with Bogner Fire+Ice, a Munich-based performance sportswear label, and engaged the internationally acclaimed DJ and music producer Purple Disco Machine, together with Jake Shears, the singer of the band Scissor Sisters. The result is the original song 'Fire + Ice', which was commissioned by Volkswagen and has already surpassed a million streams within days of release.
The music video for 'Fire + Ice' showcases the ID.3 GTX as an electric era hero without losing its swagger. It features fresh stunts of the ID.3 GTX and archive nods to the Golf 2, illustrating the evolution of a cult car. The video was created to promote the ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice, which is marketed as an electrified collector's item with a built-in dance beat.
The ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice is a limited-edition model, with only 1990 units produced, mirroring the year the original Golf Fire & Ice launched. It boasts exclusive paintwork and bespoke trim details, adding to its collector's appeal. Under the hood, it packs a powerful electric drivetrain rated at 240kW.
The ID.3 GTX Fire+Ice was launched alongside the new track, with Volkswagen aiming to create a strong fashion tie-in. This limited-edition vehicle is more than just a car; it's a symbol of Volkswagen's commitment to the electric future, wrapped in the nostalgia of the past.
