Vital Technology INTRODUCES 93 QMC Modules and Carrier Boards for Immediate Purchase
New VITA 93 QMC Modules from Acromag Offer Rugged, High-Performance I/O for Unmanned Vehicles
Acromag, a leading provider of rugged embedded computing solutions, has announced the release of a new line of VITA 93 QMC small-form-factor mezzanine cards. These modules, including the QMC350 (analog input module), QMC440 (digital input module), QMC450 (digital output module), QMC510 (octal serial communication module), QMC520 (quad isolated serial communication module), QMC730 (multifunction I/O module), are designed to meet the growing demands for smaller form factors and increased performance in harsh environments.
The new VITA 93 QMC modules fit into a Single QMC slot and can be used in carrier boards with multiple slots to handle various combinations of mezzanine modules. These modules are ideal for smaller computers used in unmanned vehicles and narrow payload tubes, providing the ruggedness, high-speed operation, and dense I/O required for these applications.
One key feature of the VITA 93 QMC modules is their I2C interface, which supports the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI). This feature allows for remote management and monitoring of the system, making it easier to maintain and troubleshoot in the field.
The VITA 93 QMC mezzanine modules are slightly larger than a long M.2 module, but this extra size allows for the use of larger chips such as GPGPUs and AI accelerators. Each module also features four mounting holes for bolting to the carrier board, ensuring a secure connection in even the most challenging environments.
The VITA 93 QMC standard is based on the AcceleRate HD Ultra-Dense Slim Body Array connectors from Samtec. These connectors provide a x4 PCI Express Gen 4 interface plus 20 differential or 40 single-ended I/O ports, enabling high-speed data transfer and communication. The standard defines the layout for both mezzanine cards and carrier boards, ensuring compatibility and ease of use.
The VITA 93 QMC standard is an open standard supported by a number of vendors and backed by VITA, making it a versatile and widely-adopted solution for rugged, high-performance embedded computing applications. Acromag has also released a half-length PCI Express (PCIe) carrier card with a single QMC slot, making it easy for developers to integrate these modules into their systems.
In addition to the single-slot carrier card, VITA 93 QMC standard defines double, triple, and quad layouts designed to handle a mix of mezzanine modules. The I2C serial memory device on the module can provide configuration information, further simplifying the integration process.
Overall, the VITA 93 QMC standard offers a rugged, small-form-factor solution for high-performance, high-density I/O in harsh environments. Its compact size, mechanical robustness, conduction cooling, and high-speed serial interfaces make it ideally suited for embedded computing in unmanned vehicles and other challenging environments where size, durability, and performance converge.
