VinFast's VF7 Model Undergoes Testing in Mumbai in Preparation for India Debut
VinFast's VF7 Electric SUV Makes Indian Debut
VinFast, the Vietnamese electric vehicle maker, has made its entry into the Indian market with the VF7, a mid-sized electric SUV. The vehicle is currently undergoing local testing and validation in Mumbai, ahead of a planned June launch for a $2 billion EV plant in Tamil Nadu.
The VF7 prototype, showcased in Mumbai, offers a clear view of its front fascia, wing mirrors, and a portion of the cabin. Its design is consistent with the international version, suggesting that VinFast is aiming to maintain a uniform aesthetic across its global offerings. However, it remains unclear if the large central infotainment screen in the VF7 prototype is the 12.9-inch or the more premium 15-inch unit available overseas.
The VF7 is VinFast's first offering for India and is anticipated to be priced in the ₹20 lakh to ₹30 lakh (ex-showroom) bracket. This places it in direct competition with established rivals like the BYD Atto 3, which retails between ₹24.99 lakh and ₹33.99 lakh.
The BYD Atto 3 offers battery options of 49.92 kWh and 60.48 kWh with ARAI-claimed ranges of 468 km and 521 km, respectively. However, no information is provided about the specific battery or motor configuration for the locally assembled VF7 in India.
The VF7 will be available in five versions with two battery options, front- or all-wheel drive, and a top Sky version delivering 260 kW power with a range of 438 to 532 km depending on the version. The test vehicle of the VF7 in Mumbai features 19-inch alloy wheels and Apollo Aspire tyres, a change likely to improve ride comfort on Indian roads.
In addition to its impressive specifications, the VF7 also boasts several advanced features. These include a Camera-based ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) suite, a wing mirror camera suggesting availability of a 360-degree camera system, and a large central infotainment screen.
VinFast won the New Brand Debut Honour at Auto Expo 2025, and the VF7 showcased at the event was equipped with 20-inch alloy wheels and Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres. The VF7 is available internationally in two variants: Eco and Plus. The Eco variant comes with a single-motor FWD, 201 bhp, 310 Nm, and a WLTP range of 450 km. The Plus variant features a dual-motor AWD, 349 bhp, 500 Nm, and a WLTP range of 431 km.
The VF7 is expected to launch around October 2025, coinciding with India's festive season. VinFast plans to locally assemble its EVs at a new facility in Tamil Nadu to offer competitive pricing and deliver on its promise of bringing affordable electric vehicles to the Indian market.
