Volvo is set to unveil its latest electric offering, the EX60, on January 21st. This groundbreaking vehicle will be the first car from the Swedish automaker to utilise its latest technology base, marking a significant step forward in Volvo's electrification journey.

The EX60 has been designed and developed in Gothenburg, Sweden, and will be a key part of Volvo's future line-up. CEO Håkan Samuelsson, who has hyped the vehicle for months, confirmed the reveal date on LinkedIn.

Unlike the SEA platform used for the EX30 crossover, the EX60 is "100% electric and 100% Volvo Cars". It will be based on the advanced, highly scalable SPA3 platform, a successor to the platform that underpins the EX90 and ES90. This platform will accommodate a wide range of battery sizes for the EX60, allowing for customisation to meet various consumer needs.

The EX60 boasts a more aerodynamic design compared to its combustion-engined counterpart, the XC60, with a lower bonnet line. Its front headlights feature a design reminiscent of the EX90 large SUV, with narrow headlights sporting Volvo's 'Thor's Hammer' design.

One of the standout features of the EX60 is its advanced software stack. This will enable over-the-air updates and extra features, ensuring the vehicle stays up-to-date with the latest technology.

The EX60 is expected to deliver a longer electric range than any previous Volvo car. According to Volvo's estimates, the vehicle will offer an official WLTP range of 435 miles using a 106kWh battery. This range surpasses that of the Volvo ES90 saloon, further underscoring the EX60's potential as a game-changer in the electric vehicle market.

CEO Håkan Samuelsson has described the EX60 as "can't get much more Swedish". The vehicle will be produced at the Torslanda plant in Gothenburg, continuing Volvo's commitment to Swedish manufacturing.

Seth Weintraub, who is involved in the development of the EX60, has confirmed its release on January 21st. With its cutting-edge technology, sleek design, and impressive electric range, the Volvo EX60 is certainly one to watch in the world of electric vehicles.
