Unveiling of Canon's 410MP Full-Frame Camera Sensor to the General Public for the First Time

In a groundbreaking move, Canon has revealed its latest imaging technology at the Shanghai International Photographic Equipment and Digital Imaging Exhibition 2025. The star of the show is the LI8030SA, a 35mm full-frame sensor boasting an astounding 410 megapixels.

This sensor, available in both RGB (LI8030SAC) and monochrome (LI8030SAM) versions, outperforms existing resolutions such as 4K and 8K by a significant margin. It utilises Back-Side Illuminated (BSI) CMOS technology, enhancing low-light performance, and boasts a readout speed of 3,280 megapixels per second, supporting up to 8 frames per second at full resolution.

The implications of this technology are far-reaching. The LI8030SA captures 198 times the detail of Full HD and 49 times that of 4K, offering unparalleled image clarity. It is expected to be used in fields demanding high resolution, such as surveillance, medicine, and industrial applications. The high resolution also allows for significant cropping and zooming without losing image quality, making it ideal for applications where image detail is crucial.

While the LI8030SA may not be intended for the mass market, it could revolutionise industries requiring extreme resolution. Eiji Hirano, vice president of Canon China, emphasised that Canon continues to provide innovative solutions and works with industry partners to build a prosperous ecosystem for the imaging industry.

The Chinese market is of great importance to Canon, with Hirano stating that it has strong demand and is rapidly developing. Canon China has reportedly achieved good results, especially in the youth micro-lens series products. The Canon booth at the exhibition is expected to provide a great time for consumers, creating laughter and conveying touching stories.

James Artaius, head of Digital Camera World, has 25 years of experience as a journalist and 7 years as the head of Digital Camera World. Artaius, who is an Olympus / OM System, Canon, and Hasselblad shooter, has a wealth of knowledge on cameras of all makes. He expressed his admiration for Canon's commitment to innovation and the potential impact of the LI8030SA on various industries.

Canon's Chinese website offers more information on its activity at Shanghai P&I 2025. The LI8030SA is not just a step forward for Canon; it is a giant leap for the imaging industry as a whole.
