New Arcfox T1 Aims to Shake Up China's Small Electric Car Market
The Arcfox T1, a new A-class hatchback by BAIC's Arcfox, is set to enter the 70,000 yuan (approximately $10,000 USD) pure electric small car market later this year. This compact electric vehicle (EV) is set to compete with established rivals such as the Geely Xingyuan and BYD Seagull.
Measuring 4,337 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,572 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,770 mm, the T1 boasts modern aerodynamic styling. LED light bars, flush door handles, and 18- to 19-inch wheels give the T1 a distinctive look in its class.
Inside, the T1 offers a 15.6-inch floating touchscreen, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a large panoramic sunroof, and a spacious 459-liter trunk volume.
The T1 offers two battery capacities: 41.7 kWh and 42.3 kWh, both supplied by CALB (China Aviation Lithium Battery Technology Group Co., Ltd.). The base model delivers around 70 kW (94 hp), with more powerful variants offering up to 95 kW (approximately 128 hp). This translates to a cruising range of between 410 to 425 kilometres under the CLTC cycle.
As Arcfox seeks a sales boost, the T1 is expected to increase volumes towards the end of 2025. While specific sales data for the T1 is not yet available, Arcfox as a brand has been progressing well, with monthly deliveries around 10,000 units earlier in the year, reaching 13,500 units in May.
The Geely Xingyuan and BYD Seagull have been part of their respective brands' broader marketing and have established sales traction in the Chinese market. Exact comparative sales figures between the Arcfox T1, Geely Xingyuan, and BYD Seagull are not publicly detailed yet.
In summary, the Arcfox T1 targets the growing compact electric SUV/hatchback segment with competitive range and a modern design, aiming to compete with models like the BYD Seagull and Geely Xingyuan. Its sales are projected to ramp up in the near term as production scales, but detailed comparative sales and long-term market impact remain to be seen.
