Uber Expands Intercity Services, venture into Motorhome Market
Uber Expands Horizons in India with Motorhome Service
Uber, the global ride-hailing giant, is making waves in India by venturing into a new domain – intercity travel. The company has introduced a limited-period Motorhome service in the Delhi-NCR region, marking its foray into the motorhome market.
The service, available from August 7 to September 6, 2025, offers a premium travel experience with amenities such as a television, lavatory, microwave, mini-refrigerator, and a driver and a helper to assist travelers. The Motorhome seats 4-5 passengers and can be booked via the Uber app, which features a dedicated icon for this option.
This move by Uber complements its significant expansion of its broader Intercity service. The service now covers over 3,000 routes across India, a 50% increase from the end of 2024, with plans to reach 4,500 routes by 2026. The Intercity service targets quick getaways, family visits, and business travel, with popular routes including Mumbai–Pune, Delhi–Agra, and Bangalore–Mysore. Features like advance booking through Uber Reserve, live tracking, mid-trip stop additions, and 24/7 support are standard.
The growth in the motorhome and caravan market is driven by rising interest in outdoor adventure, staycations, increasing disposable incomes (especially in Europe and North America), and improvements in design and amenities. The Indian motorhome market is estimated to be worth around $5.5 Bn by 2031, and this early introduction by Uber could potentially catalyze growth in the segment.
Uber Eats India, headquartered in Mumbai, was founded in 2014 and operates in the Foodtech sector. The company has also been strengthening its electric mobility push. It has partnered with Refex Green Mobility to introduce 1000 electric four-wheelers in Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. Moreover, Uber has renewed partnerships with Lithium Urban Technologies, Everest Fleet, and Moove to deploy 25,000 EVs across seven major cities by 2026.
With these initiatives, Uber seems poised to transform India's motorhome and intercity travel markets over the coming decade. As India's highway infrastructure improves and demand for comfortable outstation travel rises, Uber's Motorhome service could boost consumer awareness and acceptance of motorhomes, expanding market penetration substantially by 2031.
