Twentieth-century PPG 1002 weapon rebuild unveiled, featuring an astronomical price.
Dropping a Classic: The PPG 1002 Returns with a Twist 🔀
Back by popular demand, the PPG 1002, an iconic synth from 1976, famed for its thunderous sound, is making a comeback! This legendary piece of music history, only available to a select few back in the day, is getting a revamp by none other than Cornel Hecht from Liquid Sky Collective and the legendary Wolfgang Palm, pioneer of PPG and wavetable synthesis. 🎹
Much like the PPG W2.2x4 Eurorack module announced earlier this year, this new, limited edition incorporates everything the original 1002 was capable of, giving modern music maestros the same experience, albeit keyboard-less. The restoration process was based on Palm's meticulous handwriting and diagrams. ✍️
Missing a keyboard won't be a deal-breaker for those who appreciate hands-on, modular synths, who will undoubtedly flock to this year's Superbooth in Berlin. At the event, you'll get a first-hand peek at this painstakingly recreated masterpiece (at the Native Instruments booth H130). 📸
Although it lacks a keyboard, this new version of the PPG 1002 includes MIDI and velocity response, an extra square waveform on the second oscillator, a noise generator, a ring modulator, and a highly adaptable LFO with twin-waveform capabilities. Its integrative architecture has been fine-tuned to work harmoniously with the modular realm it's sure to be patched into.
As a nod to the past and a leap into the future, the new PPG 1002 will blend seamlessly with contemporary technology, offering music enthusiasts not only a taste of history but also the opportunity to experiment with modern gadgets during entertainment events like Superbooth in Berlin. This vintage synth, equipped with a set of advanced features such as MIDI, velocity response, and additional oscillator waveforms, promises to become a valuable asset in today's world of wavetable synthesis and musical innovation.
