Trees toppling onto Derendorfweg
Neuss: commencement of tree felling and road widening on Derendorfweg from November 4
The city of Neuss has announced that tree felling will commence on Derendorfweg from Monday, November 4. This action is part of the planned development of a research and development site for automotive supplier Pierburg GmbH, a subsidiary of Rheinmetall AG.
Currently, Derendorfweg measures approximately 5-6 meters in width. As part of the construction measures, it will be expanded using the classic separation principle, with a projected width of 9 meters, including a bike lane and a new side strip featuring a sidewalk and a green planted area. Additionally, a sidewalk and green strip will be created on the southern side of the street in the planned bike store area. The necessary building permits were approved by the Neuss city council in 2021.
The tree felling process, which may take between five and eight days depending on weather conditions, will be followed by the relocation of utility lines and sewers. The actual road construction work is scheduled from February to August 2025, with the building construction set to start in 2026 and the move to the new property expected in 2028.
The required species protection examination has been conducted, and appropriate measures, such as the examination of cavity trees, have been implemented. A certain number of ashes, maples, and shrubs along Derendorfweg will be cut down, but compensation for the lost trees and shrubs will be provided in the form of replacement plantings, as outlined in the development plan. The plan also includes additional plantings, including 45 avenue trees on Hammer Landstraße, as well as internal and external compensation measures.
The development project on Derendorfweg is a step towards the infrastructural development of Neuss, supporting innovation and the economy in the region, and maintaining and expanding jobs. The city of Neuss appreciates the public's understanding and support during the construction phase.
