Toshiba Opens New India Plant for CRGO Cores and Surge Arresters
Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems India (TTDI) has inaugurated a new manufacturing facility in Rudraram, Telangana, India. The plant specialises in cold rolled grain-oriented steel (CRGO) core processing solutions, with an annual capacity of 12,000 tons, and includes a dedicated surge arrester production line, capable of producing 80,000 units annually.
The Rudraram facility is part of TTDI's strategic investment plan, outlined in a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the Government of Telangana in April 2025. This plan aims to accelerate manufacturing capabilities, improve operational efficiency, increase speed-to-market, and deliver high-quality, sustainable energy solutions. The total proposed investment over three years is $70 million (JPY 10 billion).
Hiroshi Furuta, chairman and managing director of TTDI, expressed his confidence in the planned investments, stating they will strengthen Toshiba's manufacturing footprint in India. Furuta, who led TTDI to win the National Award for Outstanding Export Performance in 2023-24, is optimistic about meeting growing demand in both India and international markets through these investments. Additionally, TTDI has commenced construction on a new extra-high-voltage (EHV) power transformer manufacturing line, which will boost its overall power transformer production capacity to 42,000 MVA per annum.
The new Rudraram facility, with its CRGO core processing solutions and surge arrester production line, complements TTDI's existing operations. Alongside the new EHV power transformer manufacturing line, these investments position TTDI to meet the increasing demand for high-quality, sustainable energy news in India and global markets.
