American Primeval, the standout hit of 2025 on Netflix, has basked in the glory of the #1 spot, dethroning Squid Games season 2 with its record-breaking numbers. But the burning question on everyone's lips is: will there be a second season?
Well, buckle up, folks, because it's a complex situation.
Initially marketed as a miniseries, American Primeval was intended to stand alone. However, the success of some miniseries, like The White Lotus and Shogun, has shown that they don't always stay in their intended format. And it seems that American Primeval might be following suit, but with a twist.
Creator and director Peter Berg hinted at a potential American Primeval spin-off in a chat with THR. When asked about the possibility of a prequel series focusing on Isaac's character, Berg responded, "We're talking about it right now. Good pick. That's the way we'd go if we do it, and I don't know if we will, but that would be the way we would go."[1][2][4]
So, while they haven't made an official announcement, it's safe to say that they're seriously considering it. But when asked about a traditional season 2, the response was less promising.
"One challenge there is that Shawnee and Preston, the actors who played Two Moons and Devin, we had enough trouble because the strike got us. We had to shut down for five months, and Preston went full puberty on us and gained three inches [in height] and his voice dropped and he started having hair on his face. It would be a real big time jump to keep that crew going, but the idea of looking backwards is really interesting to me."[3]
Given Berg's enthusiasm for a prequel series and the show's immense popularity, it seems we might be in for a spin-off in the future. And if that happens, we can definitely expect to see Taylor Kitsch back as Isaac.
The confirmation may still be a while coming, as these things take time. But with Berg's passion for a prequel, I'd put my money on a spin-off eventually making its way onto our screens.
