Tesla's 6-Seater Model Y L to Debut in China this Autumn

Tesla's 6-seater Model Y L, a long-wheelbase version of the popular electric SUV, is set to launch in China this autumn, with sales expected to start in September 2025. The new Model Y L, featuring a longer wheelbase, six seats arranged in three rows, and enhanced interior space, is aimed at families needing extra passenger capacity.

Production of the Model Y L has already begun at Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory, as confirmed by reports and Tesla's official Weibo account. The new vehicle has been spotted on prototype runs in Europe, suggesting a debut in European countries will follow soon after the China launch.

While official timing for availability in other markets, including Australia, has not been specifically announced, it is expected to follow Europe and North America. The Model Y L is set to be the most spacious SUV made at Tesla's Shanghai factory.

Riz Akhtar, the founder of carloop, a company specializing in Australian EV data, insight reports, and trends, expressed his excitement about the new Model Y L. As a mechanical engineer who spent the first 7 years of his career building transport infrastructure before starting carloop, Akhtar has a deep passion for cars, particularly electric vehicles (EVs), and wants to help reduce transport emissions in Australia.

The new Model Y, in a 6-seat configuration, could be appealing for family car buyers due to its access to the strong supercharger network. In Australia, a handful of electric models with 7-seats are available, but the list is expected to grow with models like Kia EV9, Zeekr 009, Volvo EX90, Hyundai Ioniq 9, and potentially the new Tesla Model Y 6-seater.

The new Model Y is expected to be one of the most efficient family SUVs on the market. Other changes expected on the new car include a new rear spoiler, a new gold paint option, and upgraded seats on the inside. Additionally, a new 7-seater version of Tesla's Model Y is being tested in north-west China.

We will keep an eye out for updates on the new 6-seater Model Y, as this product could help bring more family SUV buyers to EVs. Stay tuned for more developments in the world of electric vehicles.
