Tesla Stops Offering Model S and Model X in Germany Due to Low Demand

Tesla has stopped offering the Model S and Model X for new orders in Germany, citing very low demand for these luxury vehicles as the main reason. In the first half of 2025, Tesla sold only about 58 Model S and 59 Model X cars in Germany—roughly ten units per month—while the Model Y sold over 6,300 units in the same period.

The recent withdrawal of the Model S and Model X from the German market follows a similar pattern from 2021 when Tesla suspended European orders following an upgrade and only resumed after a delay. It remains unclear whether this situation is a temporary pause awaiting new model introductions or a longer-term strategic withdrawal of these luxury models from Europe.

Tesla quietly removed the Model S and Model X from online configurators in Germany, Norway, the UK, France, and the Netherlands, redirecting customers to purchase only from existing inventory rather than customizing new vehicles. The company has not introduced the updates or resumed new configurations in Europe that were available in the US market following a June 2025 minor facelift.

The low demand for Model S and Model X in Germany may be due to the costs associated with maintaining these vehicles, as they are more expensive to register, adjust to regulations, and service compared to the Model Y. As a result, only display cars and used examples of Model S and Model X are still available in the German market.

Despite the discontinuation in Germany, the technical specifications of the Model S and Model X remain the same, with around 660 kilometers of range in the Long-Range version. The recent refresh of the Model S and Model X in the US includes new paint options, black logos, fresh rims, and subtly revised bumpers. The Model S Plaid has been tweaked for better aerodynamics in the recent refresh.

Tesla has not disclosed any plans to bring Model S and Model X back to the German market, leaving the future availability of these luxury vehicles uncertain. For now, customers in Germany can only purchase display cars and used examples of the Model S and Model X.

  • The low demand for Tesla's Model S and Model X in Germany may be due to their higher costs in registration, regulation adjustments, and servicing compared to the Model Y.
  • Tesla has removed the Model S and Model X from online configurators in several European countries, including Germany, and has not resumed new configurations despite updates introduced in the US market.
  • Despite the discontinuation in Germany, the technical specifications of the Model S and Model X remain the same, offering about 660 kilometers of range in the Long-Range version.
  • The recent pause in offering the Model S and Model X in Germany could be a temporary situation, awaiting new model introductions, or it might indicate a longer-term strategic withdrawal from the European market.
