Television network TVW Public Affairs' programming undergoes significant changes due to Keycode Media's revamping.

TVW, Washington State's public affairs network, has overhauled its live and file-based playout system, turning to Keycode Media for a more customized and flexible approach. The new workflow, centred on the AirBox Neo servers, offers a highly flexible, integrated, and centrally managed environment for both live and file-based playout.

The system runs on the PlayBox Neo Suite, a platform that centralizes control, monitoring, and administration for an optimized multimedia playout workflow. This enables streamlined management from ingest to scheduling to transmission.

The PlayBox Neo Suite is particularly proud of the seamless way it communicates with all tools in master control, demonstrating the flexibility of the platform. The system interfaces directly with TVW's third-party trafficking system, controlling the network’s NVision 9000 router.

The new playout system features master and redundant PlayBox Neo AirBox Neo systems with 12 channels. The AirBox Neo servers handle playout, supporting the mixing of various media files and live inputs within a single playlist. This facilitates a seamless integration of live streams and VOD assets.

One of the key benefits of the new system is dynamic playlist flexibility. Users can modify playlists at any time, including during live broadcast. This includes trimming, editing, and repositioning media without needing to wait for long session ends. This flexibility supports last-minute programming changes.

AirBox Neo also supports advanced scheduling, allowing for playlists to be scheduled weeks in advance, while retaining the ability to insert live content on the fly.

The system includes a TitleBox Neo interactive CG, ListBox for schedule creation and editing, Live Ingest, and the Multi-Backup Manager (MBM) for multi-channel redundancy. The design of this workflow demonstrates the flexibility of the PlayBox Neo platform, as it is customizable to meet TVW’s specific needs, including tight timelines and multi-vendor coordination.

In addition to providing gavel-to-gavel coverage of all three branches of state government, TVW also produces original documentaries, programs with in-depth interviews, and educational content about Washington public policy. The new playout system will help TVW streamline live productions, allowing the insertion of live streams into the playlist, removing complexity traditionally associated with mixing file-based and live content.

For automated playout, AirBox Neo enables playlist scheduling weeks ahead of time. This upgrade to TVW’s playout system will undoubtedly improve its prior setup, providing a more agile playlist control, advanced scheduling, live stream integration, and unified routing control.
