Deutsche Telekom Introduces Affordable AI-Powered Smartphone: T Phone 3

Deutsche Telekom has made a significant move in the AI-powered smartphone market with the launch of the T Phone 3 in August 2025. Priced between €149 and €200, the budget device is equipped with an integrated AI personal assistant powered by the Perplexity AI chatbot.

The T Phone 3 is part of Deutsche Telekom’s broader AI strategy, which was showcased at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025. This strategy includes over 30 AI-powered solutions for enterprises and smart cities, AI-driven cybersecurity, and network optimization using AI assistants.

The AI assistant on the T Phone 3 helps users with tasks such as calendar management, email composition, recipe suggestions, and fitness advice. It aims to make AI accessible for everyday use, rather than just tech enthusiasts. The phone also offers features like real-time translation, camera enhancements, and "circle to search" functionality, reflecting consumer demand for practical generative AI uses on smartphones.

While Samsung and Apple have integrated AI features into their devices, Deutsche Telekom’s AI-phone stands out with its focus on a dedicated AI chatbot on a budget device. This is aimed at broad AI adoption, differentiating it from the more general AI features in flagship phones from Apple and Samsung.

In contrast, established smartphone manufacturers like Samsung and Apple are integrating more AI functions into their devices. Vodafone Germany, for instance, relies on partnerships with providers like Google and Microsoft for smartphones and AI technology.

No specific sales figures for the T-Phone have been communicated by Telekom. However, it's worth noting that there is also a tablet variant of the AI phone.

With the T Phone 3, Deutsche Telekom is innovating by democratizing AI phone use in Europe, while Samsung and Apple continue to embed AI within their broader device ecosystems without a specialized AI phone product like Telekom’s.
