Tata Communications prepares to launch a 100G media backbone, seizing substantial prospects in the eSports sector.
In a groundbreaking collaboration, Tata Communications and Net Insight have launched a 100G media backbone to transform the global eSports and media landscape. This new infrastructure promises seamless, highly engaging gaming experiences for eSports fans worldwide.
The 100G backbone, built using Net Insight's next-generation WAN transport platform, the Nimbra 1060, will help broadcasters, sports organisations, OTT companies, and eSports businesses deliver more immersive viewing and gaming news. The scalable and innovative nature of Net Insight's technology is evident in Tata Communications' choice to deliver its new global 100G backbone using the Nimbra platform.
The Nimbra 1060 platform is designed for all-IP services and all-IP networks, guaranteeing quality for live media events and providing agility through automated real-time provisioning. It is also designed to meet the new demands of the merger of media and IT, including cost-efficiency and workflow automation in media networks.
The 100G capacity lowers the barriers for global sports organisations to move from satellite-based content distribution to fibre across entire continents. With 100G, broadcasters and eSports companies can offer viewers and gamers ultra-immersive 4K viewing news without running out of bandwidth.
The new backbone will help overcome the technical complexities of eSports, which involve multiple cameras, cutaways, real-time reactions, commentary, and intensive editing. At major sports events, the new infrastructure will have the capacity to support up to 50 raw video feeds and the delivery of unilateral, localised news by different rightsholders for their regions.
The combination of the 100G backbone and workflows on Tata Communications' media ecosystem will help more broadcasters and rightsholders switch to full remote production. This will not only streamline production processes but also reduce costs and environmental impact.
Dhaval Ponda, Associate Vice President of Media and Entertainment at Tata Communications, expressed his pride and excitement about the collaboration with Net Insight. He believes that this partnership will offer new opportunities to broadcasters, sports organisations, OTT players, and eSports businesses, helping them innovate with agility and become more competitive.
The new 100G backbone, along with Tata Communications' managed video services, will enable customers to innovate and stay ahead in the rapidly evolving media and eSports news. The global audience of eSports is expected to reach 645 million by 2022, and this new infrastructure will ensure that fans worldwide can enjoy uninterrupted, high-quality gaming news.
Tata Communications' global end-to-end managed Video Connect network will be underpinned by the new 100G backbone, providing a robust, reliable, and high-performance network for the delivery of media content worldwide. This collaboration between Tata Communications and Net Insight is set to redefine the future of media and eSports news.
