Taiwanese Business Expanding to Dresden
Saxony, a region in eastern Germany, is gearing up for a significant technological shift as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) prepares to establish its European base in Dresden. Economy Minister Dirk Panter, accompanied by Thomas Horn, head of Saxony's economic development agency (WFS), recently returned from a trip to Taiwan where they promoted Saxony at the Semiconductor fair.
During the fair, companies from Saxony showcased their products in the German pavilion, demonstrating the region's strong presence in the global semiconductor industry. Panter visited several companies on site, including TSMC and Foxconn, learning from the world center of semiconductors and its leading manufacturers.
The highlight of the trip was the announcement that TSMC supplier Topco Scientific Co. plans to open its first European branch in Dresden by mid-2026. Topco Scientific Co., a key player in the semiconductor supply chain, has held talks with Minister Panter and is eager to establish a new European office in the city.
Thomas Horn described this development as a 'double win-win situation,' as it not only strengthens the local economy but also positions Dresden as a hub for the semiconductor industry in Europe. The effects of these efforts are already noticeable, according to Horn, with more companies expressing interest in settling in Saxony.
Minister Panter is optimistic about the future of Saxony, counting on the 'radiance' of TSMC's factory in Dresden to attract further settlements. While he did not disclose the details of talks with other companies, Panter confirmed that discussions are ongoing, hinting at a promising future for the region's tech sector.
As Saxony prepares for this tech boom, residents can look forward to a more vibrant and innovative economy, with opportunities for growth and development in the semiconductor industry.
