The French electronics company, Archos, has announced the launch of five new tablets, expanding their tablet range significantly. The new tablets, which will be available from the end of September to the middle of October, come in various sizes, from a compact 2.8 inches to a spacious 10.1 inches.

The smallest tablet in the new lineup, the Archos 28, boasts a 2.8 inch resistive touchscreen and runs on Android 2.2 Froyo. It is followed by the Archos 32, featuring a 3.2 inch screen, 8 GB internal memory, a rear camera, and an 800 MHz ARM Cortex A8 processor. The Archos 32 will be priced at $149.99.

Moving up in size, the Archos 28's successor, the Archos 43, sports a 4.3 inch screen, a 1 GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor, and an integrated camera. It is 0.35-inches thick and will cost $199. This model replaces the Archos 5.

The Archos 70, the first in the series to feature a capacitive touchscreen, sports a 7 inch display, an accelerometer, MicroSD storage, a front-facing VGA camera, standard USB port, mini-HDMI port, and video chat applications. It weighs .93 pounds and will retail at $274.99.

The star of the show is the Archos 101, a 10.1-inch tablet with a capacitive touchscreen, a 1 GHz processor, and a USB port and an HDMI out. It supports 720p video playback and includes a front-facing VGA camera. The Archos 101 is half an inch thick and will be priced at $300. This tablet is positioned as a competitor to the iPad and is expected to be available in October.

All new tablets in the range will run the latest Android 2.2 Froyo operating system. Apps for the Archos tablets will be sourced from Archos AppsLib, not the official Android Market place.
