Strong Demand for Managed Service Partners Persists Throughout Asia Pacific Region
In the dynamic landscape of cybersecurity, organizations in the Asia Pacific region are making significant strides in bolstering their defenses. According to a recent report by Sophos, in collaboration with Tech Research Asia, the demand for managed service partners remains strong in the region.
One of the key findings is the prevalence of multi-vendor environments. A third (33%) of organizations use three or more vendors for their cybersecurity needs, with only 20% relying on a single vendor. As organizations move towards flexible and tailored commercial constructs from partners, this trend is expected to increase in the next 12 months.
The report also highlights an increase in cybersecurity budgets across various sectors. In Australia, 62% of organizations are increasing their budgets for infrastructure and network security, 53% for identity access management, and 56% for application and security solutions. Moreover, 61% of organizations are boosting their budgets for threat detection and response.
The Asia Pacific region is also witnessing a surge in investment in third-party managed security services. In the next 12 months, 50% of organizations in the region, including 83% of Australian organizations, expect to increase their cybersecurity budgets.
However, concerns about AI-augmented cyberattacks, while a top concern in most markets, rank lower in Australia. Credential theft and phishing/social engineering are the primary concerns for Australian organizations. To combat these threats and address the AI skills shortage, 45% of organizations across the region are looking to outsource to partners for support.
In the face of security incidents, organizations are becoming more discerning. More than two-thirds (68%) of Australian organizations surveyed are unlikely to engage a partner that has been breached or suffered a security incident. Of the companies that still choose to engage a breached partner, 60% will include extra performance clauses and specific service level agreements.
The report identifies strengthening cybersecurity posture around financial operations, improving risk management capabilities, and ensuring cybersecurity is robust enough to support digital transformation programs as the top three areas of importance for businesses. To this end, 49% of organizations in the Asia Pacific region intend to train and develop in-house skills with the assistance of partner-supported training and education.
In conclusion, the cybersecurity landscape in the Asia Pacific region, particularly in Australia, is evolving. With a focus on multi-vendor environments, increased budgets, and a shift towards outsourcing, organizations are taking proactive steps to protect themselves from cyber threats and ensure their digital transformation programs are secure. The Cybersecurity Playbook for Partners in Asia Pacific and Japan, released by Sophos, provides valuable insights and strategies for navigating this ever-changing landscape.
