Space Norway Hires Elon Musk's SpaceX for THOR 8 Rocket Launch
Space Norway Taps SpaceX for THOR 8 Launch in 2027
In a move to bolster its multi-orbit strategy, Space Norway has chosen SpaceX to launch its upcoming satellite, THOR 8. The decision marks the continuation of a successful collaboration between the two entities, following the successful launch of two ASBM satellites by SpaceX in the previous year.
The launch, scheduled for 2027, will be executed by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. This choice is in line with Space Norway's commitment to innovation and efficiency, as SpaceX was the first company to commercialize the reuse of its rockets, a significant stride towards sustainable space travel.
THOR 8 is a crucial part of Space Norway's plans, as it will replace older satellites that are being phased out and provide increased capacity and service offerings. The satellite will join Space Norway's fleet, which already includes satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO), geostationary orbit (GEO), and highly elliptical orbit (HEO).
Stephanie Bednarek, SpaceX's Vice President of Commercial Sales, expressed pride in the trust Space Norway has placed in SpaceX for THOR 8's launch. As of now, SpaceX has completed more than 500 successful launches and recoveries of Falcon first stage boosters, a testament to their reliability and expertise.
While the specific mission objectives or services that THOR 8 will offer remain undisclosed, the partnership between Space Norway and SpaceX promises to push the boundaries of space exploration and satellite technology. The launch of THOR 8 will undoubtedly be a significant milestone in Space Norway's journey towards a more connected and technologically advanced future.
