South Africa Simplifies Tourism: New ETA Portal Coming Soon

South Africa is simplifying its tourist visa process. The Ministry of the Interior is developing an electronic travel authorization (ETA) portal, set to launch next month. Initially, it will serve nationals of four specific countries attending the G20 meetings, with broader access to follow.

The ETA, linked to the passport, allows multiple entries during its validity period. However, it cannot be used to indefinitely extend a stay or engage in professional activity. Once fully operational, the ETA will become the single entry point for tourist visas for all visa-required countries.

Leon Schreiber, the Minister of the Interior, revealed the first images of the ETA portal on Thursday. The system is expected to be activated by the end of September. Even visa-exempt travelers can request an ETA to visit South Africa.

The ETA system aims to simplify travel to South Africa. After the initial launch for G20 delegates, it will expand to other visa categories, eventually incorporating automated entry and exit based on facial recognition. Travelers are advised to stay tuned for official launch announcements.
