Brex Expands Operations to Europe, Offering Global Financial Solutions

Brex, the financial platform of choice for companies with global operations, has announced its plans to expand its operations across all 30 European Union countries. This expansion will be facilitated by Brex's newly secured EU Payment Institution (PI) license, allowing it to directly issue credit and debit cards and offer its full suite of spend management products to EU-based businesses.

Until now, Brex's services were limited to companies with a U.S. presence. However, with this expansion, Brex can now serve European companies without requiring them to have a U.S. location. Brex has already established a presence in the Netherlands, with local teams across sales, operations, and customer success.

The EU PI license deepens Brex's strategic moat, empowering it to offer commercial credit cards, payment origination (including direct debits and credit transfers), and tools that enable smarter spend and treasury management. Brex is also exploring securing a separate UK license to support UK customers, expanding its footprint there in the coming months.

Brex's global payments infrastructure powers a truly integrated solution, designed to facilitate the growth of high-growth, multi-country businesses. The company aims to provide innovative technologies such as virtual corporate cards integrated with third-party platforms, and broader treasury management solutions intended to deepen its relationships with EU companies beyond payment processing.

With a network spanning over 200 countries and 60 currencies, this EU expansion strategically positions Brex as a global intelligent finance platform tailored for businesses operating across multiple regions.

Mark Topping, Group Finance Manager at Ooni, a global leader in home pizza ovens, finds Brex's global platform attractive and easy to use. Brex has already helped Ooni unify their global card program, streamline spend management, and reduce reliance on fragmented financial systems. Brex serves 1,500 customers with EU operations, and with the expansion, it expects to be fully operational in Europe by early 2026.

Pedro Franceschi, CEO and Co-Founder of Brex, stated that the license takes them one step further, enabling Brex to directly serve EU-based businesses and their subsidiaries with locally accepted cards and best-in-class payment capabilities. Brex plans to begin onboarding select customers in the coming months through a phased rollout.

As Brex continues to grow its European footprint, a dozen team members are currently on the ground in the Netherlands, with plans to scale as the company expands. Brex's EU expansion is set to revolutionise the financial landscape for businesses operating across multiple regions, offering a seamless, integrated solution for cross-border payments and treasury functions.
