Smoltek Hydrogen to Tour Germany's Hydrogen Hubs
Scandinavian Delegation's Hydrogen Sector Meetings Includes Smoltek Hydrogen's Participation in Germany
Smoltek Hydrogen, a leading Scandinavian hydrogen technology company, has been invited to participate in a delegation of technology-leading hydrogen companies, scheduled for a round-trip to Germany's energy-producing regions between 11 and 13 November 2024.
The tour, funded by the German Chamber of Commerce, offers a fantastic opportunity for Smoltek Hydrogen to make contact with and connect with large German companies in the hydrogen industry. The delegation will visit the Central German chemical triangle and its major players, as well as the Ruhr area, historically significant for industrial activities and now showing growing interests in integrating hydrogen technologies.
The tour is focused on green hydrogen and gaining insights into German business models along the value chain in the energy transition. Ellinor Ehrnberg, President of Smoltek Hydrogen, is looking forward to this opportunity, expressing her eagerness to explore business opportunities and meet key people in the German hydrogen industry.
Germany's Hydrogen Sector: Current Status
Germany is actively developing its hydrogen sector, with a focus on both blue and green hydrogen. The country's cabinet has backed draft legislation supporting the widespread deployment of carbon capture and storage (CCS) and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), which could significantly boost investment in blue hydrogen production.
In the Central German chemical triangle, 3.6 billion m3 of hydrogen are being used and transported in a pipeline network with a combined length of 150 km. The Ruhr hydrogen pipeline, the longest dedicated hydrogen pipeline in Germany, stretching 240 km, is also part of the plans to create model regions for a green hydrogen economy.
While there are ambitious plans and projects across the country, Germany faces bureaucratic hurdles and regulatory uncertainties that impede long-term contracts and funding for renewable hydrogen projects. Despite these challenges, the ongoing phase out of coal power is contributing to the development of the green hydrogen economy in these regions.
Opportunities for Collaboration
The tour will highlight research projects for electrolysis and stack production in Lusatia and North Rhine-Westphalia, as well as connect Smoltek Hydrogen with German suppliers and technology providers. The delegation will also provide an opportunity for Smoltek Hydrogen to talk to leading experts during the tour, furthering their understanding of the German hydrogen industry.
In summary, the tour presents a unique opportunity for Smoltek Hydrogen to engage with the German hydrogen industry, learn from leading experts, and explore potential business opportunities in the rapidly evolving hydrogen sector.
