Samsung pursuing One UI 8.5 upgrade for Galaxy S25, according to recent leak during testing phase
Samsung has taken a significant step forward in the development of its user interface, as the tech giant has begun internally testing One UI 8.5 on its flagship devices, including the Galaxy S25 series and the upcoming Galaxy S26 series.
This announcement comes a week after Samsung officially launched One UI 8 (Android 16), bringing major security and privacy updates, as well as personalization upgrades, to its devices. The latest update has been rolled out to the Galaxy S25, with the Galaxy S25 starting to receive the One UI 8 update this week.
The internal testing of One UI 8.5 has been conducted on various devices, including the Galaxy S25 series, the Galaxy Z Flip 6, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, and some mid-range devices such as the Galaxy A55, A54, A36, and A35. The Galaxy S25 models in Germany were specifically involved in the test, with the Galaxy S25 Ultra being used for early evaluations.
The rumors suggest that One UI 8.5 will bring large improvements to the Galaxy S26 series. One of the speculated features is an option to choose between gesture and button navigation during device startup, which could be presented on a dedicated splash screen. However, the idea of a public beta for One UI 8.5 remains unknown at this early stage.
It is worth noting that the navigation preference currently needs to be changed in device settings after the first-time startup. The version numbers for the internal tests are S938BXXU5CYIA, S938BOXM5CYIA, and S939BXXU5CYIA for the S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra respectively.
The speculation could come to pass considering the recent rumors about One UI 8.5. However, SamMobile theorizes that we likely won't see the One UI 8.5 update roll out until next year. This timeline is yet to be confirmed by Samsung.
As the testing progresses, more details about One UI 8.5 are expected to emerge. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting development in Samsung's user interface.
