Saltire Rare Malt Unveils First Release: Port Dundas 20-Year-Old Mizunara Oak
Saltire Rare Malt, a fledgling company based in Falkland, Fife, has unveiled its first single grain whisky bottling. The Port Dundas 20-Year-Old Mizunara Oak is a significant release, being the oldest and first of its kind from the brand. This whisky pays tribute to Scotland's lost distilleries, with only 558 bottles available exclusively through Saltire's website.
The Port Dundas Distillery, operational for nearly two centuries in Glasgow, closed its doors in 2010. Now, its legacy lives on in this rare single grain whisky. Matured for two decades, it was finished in virgin Japanese Mizunara oak, renowned for its rarity and expense. The whisky offers a unique blend of red fruit, cedar wood, waffles, maple syrup, and warm leather notes.
Curated by Hans and Becky Offringa, known as 'The Whisky Couple,' this release is bottled at its natural cask strength of 59.7% ABV. The couple, inductees of various whiskey halls of fame, ensured only the finest casks were selected for Saltire Rare Malt. This whisky is part of the 'Lost Distillery Series,' celebrating Scotland's closed and forgotten whisky-making landmarks.
The Port Dundas 20-Year-Old Mizunara Oak is a testament to Saltire Rare Malt's commitment to preserving Scotland's whisky history. With its unique taste profile, rare oak finish, and limited availability, this whisky is a must-have for collectors and connoisseurs alike. As the first watch in the 'Lost Distillery Series,' it sets a high bar for future bottlings.
