Portuguese Public's Perceptions and Usage of Transportation Services for Safety

A recent survey conducted by the Center for Applied Studies at the Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics, in partnership with the technology company Bolt, has shed light on Portuguese people's perceptions of transportation safety. The survey focused on individual and paid passenger transportation platforms in unmarked vehicles using an electronic platform (TVDE).

The survey revealed that 32% of Portuguese people use TVDE services regularly, with higher participation observed among women (58%) and adults under 45. More than half of the respondents (51%) have used an app to ensure someone else got home safely, instead of letting them drive.

When it comes to the motivation for using TVDE, convenience (58%), accessibility (31%), and not owning a car (25%) were the main factors. Interestingly, 48% of respondents stated that they chose TVDE over other mobility options because it made them feel safer.

The survey also found that 27% of respondents used TVDE to avoid driving after drinking alcohol, while 18% chose transportation apps to avoid public transportation where they feel unsafe. Remarkably, 31% of respondents chose TVDE as a way to get home safely when they felt tired or distracted.

The survey results indicate that 81% of Portuguese people consider TVDE services an important tool for road safety. This perception of safety using TVDE tends to be stronger among people with higher levels of education.

It's worth noting that 33% of respondents always use an app to ensure someone else's safety, and 18% frequently do so. The survey was conducted with 606 people through telephone interviews.

One of the most striking findings of the survey is that 9 out of 10 users feel safe using TVDE after a night out. However, the survey does not provide specific data or findings on Portuguese people's perceptions of Uber (TVDE) and its impact on road safety, especially related to alcohol consumption.

For accurate, detailed insights on Portuguese perceptions of Uber (TVDE) and road safety impacts including alcohol consumption, it is recommended to check Portuguese transportation authority reports, academic research, or surveys published by local consumer safety organizations or mobility research institutes.

  1. Given the survey's findings, it appears that many Portuguese individuals prioritize safety in their lifestyle choices, as evidenced by the high number (48%) who choose technology-based transportation services (TVDE) over other mobility options because they feel safer.
  2. Additionally, the report suggests that technology plays a significant role in Portuguese people's general-news and business-related decisions, as demonstrated by the fact that technology companies like Bolt are partnering with academic institutions to conduct studies on transportation safety, and many people use apps to ensure not only their own safety but also the safety of others.
