Rhein-Kreis Neuss Finds Widespread Labour Law Violations in Recent Inspections
Authorities in Rhein-Kreis Neuss have uncovered numerous labour law violations during recent inspections. The checks, involving close cooperation with local agencies, revealed illegal residence, work permit misuse, minimum wage breaches, and suspected social benefit fraud.
In total, 24 employees were inspected across four businesses in the region. The checks uncovered 12 cases of illegal residence, three instances of failing to notify authorities of employment relationships, and seven suspected cases of social benefit misuse. Additionally, minimum wage violations were detected in the hotel and catering industry, which is a central focus due to its high employment numbers and applicable regulations. The general minimum wage in Germany is now 12.82 euros per hour.
The inspections, conducted by customs officers, involved close collaboration with local authorities such as municipal public order services, immigration authorities, and tax offices. Further processing and investigations will be handled by the customs authority in cooperation with local foreigner authorities and other regional bodies.
Follow-up inspections will verify employee information against payroll and financial records to uncover and penalize any further violations. Targeted inspections combining random checks with comprehensive industry checks will continue to ensure labour law compliance in Rhein-Kreis Neuss and other affected locations.
