Car enthusiasts reminisce about the iconic Peugeot 205 GTi, a classic hot hatch that ruled the streets in the 80s and 90s. Now, this legend is back with a modern twist – the electrified Peugeot E-208 GTi!

As the current generation of the 208 nears its end, Peugeot is ready to make a bold statement with an electric GTi version before the 2027 model change. The concept of the GTi badge remains, as this label has been part of the Peugeot family for over a decade in the past.

Anew Look and Power

Unlike its predecessor, which was only available as a three-door, the new E-208 GTi is a full-fledged five-door variant. The redesigned model showcases a sporty edge with enhanced tracking (6 cm at the front, 3 cm at the rear), a lower body (3 cm), and eye-catching 18-inch lightweight alloy wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. To further emphasize its athletic prowess, the E-208 GTi boasts larger brake discs at the front (355 mm) and a sleek black diffuser with integrated LED rear fog lights at the rear.

Performance and Technology

The E-208 GTi is heavily inspired by the Abarth 600e Scorpionissima within the Stellantis group. Under the hood, it packs a punch with 280 horsepower, 345 Nm of torque, and a limited-slip differential. This electric powerhouse can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds, with an electronically-limited top speed of 180 km/h.

Inside, the E-208 GTi exudes a GTi essence with red accents, a flat-bottomed steering wheel with the GTi logo, and sports seats made of perforated leather and Alcantara. Don't worry about comfort; Peugeot assures that despite the supportive side bolsters, the seats are designed for everyday driving.

While the battery capacity remains the same as the standard 208 model at 54 kWh, the range takes a slight hit due to its electric performance, with approximately 350 kilometers. Although official pricing hasn't been announced, the Abarth counterpart goes for around €49,000, and the E-208 GTi is expected to be slightly more affordable in terms of equipment and price.

A Revolutionary Experience

The E-208 GTi delivers an exhilarating driving experience, bringing Peugeot's GTi spirit to the electric era. With a power-to-weight ratio of 5.7 kg/hp, its high-performance chassis excels in sporty conditions. Additionally, it features a dedicated cooling system for high-performance use.

Currently, no official release date or pricing information for the E-208 GTi is available. However, with an anticipated date in the near future, car enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the return of a classic legend with a modern twist.
