ReOrbit Raises $50M for Satellite OS, Swissto12 Set for 2027 Launch
ReOrbit, a European space startup, has raised over $50 million in a significant early-stage funding round. Meanwhile, Swiss startup Swissto12 is preparing for its debut spacecraft launch in early 2027, while AscendArc and Astranis have announced upcoming missions and launches.
ReOrbit's funding round, one of the largest in Europe this year, will support its development of Strawberry, a software-defined operating system for satellites. The company focuses on software, leaving hardware production to third parties.
Swissto12, backed by Intelsat, is on track to deploy its IS-45 spacecraft in early 2027. Recently, the company acquired Ku-band active electronically steered antenna (AESA) terminal assets from Hanwha Phasor. Meanwhile, AscendArc has secured South Korea's flagship operator as its first customer for a mission in the second half of 2027.
Astranis, a US-based company specializing in small, modular geostationary communication satellites, plans to launch its fourth batch of satellites in 2027 using Impulse Space's Helios kick stage. The company focuses on vertical integration to reduce costs, time, and complexity in satellite production and deployment.
These developments highlight the growing investment and activity in the European and global space industry. ReOrbit's funding, Swissto12's upcoming launch, AscendArc's customer acquisition, and Astranis' launch plans demonstrate the increasing interest and potential in space technologies.
