Refreshed Flat Pedals from OneUp Sports with an S-shaped Design, Purportedly Offering the Greatest Advantages of Both Concave and Convex Profiles

OneUp's innovative Wave flat pedal features an unconventional, wavy profile designed to deliver a more aggressive heels-down stance and enhanced grip, according to the manufacturer. In contrast to traditional flat pedals, the new Wave pedal showcases a hybrid convex-concave design that combines the benefits of both profiles.

Key Features of OneUp Wave Pedals

The Wave's unique S-shape profile consists of a concave front that embraces the ball of the foot for improved grip, followed by a sloped back section promoting a more solid heels-down position on steep descents. The pins, angled inward towards the pedal center, function like barbs to secure the sole in place (OneUp, 2023).

Inside the forged and CNC machined alloy pedal body lies a chromoly steel axle. This axle runs through an Igus bushing and three external cartridge bearings, mirroring the same bearing system found in OneUp's recently-launched Clip pedals. A Bearing Nut Tool is included to facilitate maintenance (OneUp, 2023).

A total of nine pins per side come fitted as standard, with a spare pin included in the box for riders seeking extra traction. Moreover, the Wave is available in eight vibrant color options to match or contrast with any bike build. The pricing for the Wave is £149.99 in the UK (OneUp, 2023).

Background

The development of the Wave pedal represents an evolution in the world of flat pedal design, following a process that involved eight iterations of prototype design since 2022 (OneUp, 2023). Concave remains the most popular profile on the market, but the Wave's unique design aims to redefine the ultimate flat pedal shape.

Comparatively, the Wave is on par with other lightweight flat pedals, such as OneUp's Composite Pedals, in terms of weight. However, the Wave excels in design and performance by providing a more aggressive stance for enhanced power and control while seated (OneUp, 2023). It is vital to service the pedals at least once a season to ensure smooth operation (OneUp, 2023).

Additionally, the pins from OneUp's original Aluminum Pedals are cross-compatible with the Wave Pedals, but the internal components are not (OneUp, 2023).

A review of the OneUp Wave pedals is forthcoming.

Sports enthusiasts can appreciate the advanced technology incorporated into the OneUp Wave pedals, which boast a hybrid design that delivers an enhanced grip and a more aggressive heels-down stance, thanks to its unique S-shape profile that combines concave and sloped sections. Pairing the Wave pedals with appropriate helmets and gadgets would create a formidable setup for any biking enthusiast.
