Redesigned Windows 11 Widgets Board undergoing trial, featuring Copilot Discover feed - Personalized AI-generated stories directly accessible on your desktop
Microsoft Introduces AI-Powered News Feed on Windows 11
Microsoft is testing a new feature called Copilot Discover, a personalized news feed on Windows 11 that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to curate stories based on user interests and Copilot usage[1].
The new feed offers a cleaner, faster, and less noisy design with larger text and boxes for better readability, replacing the older MSN feed within the widgets area[1].
Stories in the Copilot Discover feed are interactive, allowing users to vote on stories, bookmark them for later, and follow or block specific media outlets. Some video stories even play previews on hover[1].
A new Notifications button at the top of the feed shows breaking news, weather updates, and stock market changes. These notifications are customizable, allowing users to turn off certain alert types if they prefer[1].
The Copilot Discover feed is integrated into the redesigned Windows 11 widgets board, presenting AI-curated news and updates directly on your desktop[1].
While specific details about pinning the Copilot Discover feed to the lock screen have not been explicitly mentioned, Microsoft has been emphasizing enhancing AI-driven experiences, including more personalization and accessible content, which suggests possibilities for pinning or similar quick access features to the lock screen or widgets[1][3].
Third-party developers have adopted the ability to build widgets that appear in the Widgets Board on Windows 11 minimally[2]. Microsoft is also testing a feature that allows reading stories directly in the widgets panel instead of opening them in a browser[2].
The weather widget on the main page can no longer be moved or resized[4]. However, the widgets panel itself is still in early testing and more features and improvements are expected[5].
Assuming feedback is positive, the new Copilot Discover feed is likely to roll out more broadly over the coming weeks[6].
