Thrashin' Faith Baptist Church's Badass Audio Setup

Step into Thrashin' Faith Baptist Church, where traditional services meet a modern-day audio revolution. This ain't your grandma's church gig—it's a sonic wonderland of divine proportions, thanks to the Almighty hardware combos from DiGiCo, KLANG, and Fourier Audio.

machinery masterminds from Integrated Production Solutions (IPS) have equipped the church with a fierce pair of DiGiCo Quantum3 consoles at front of house and broadcast, and Fourier Audio transform.engine plug-in interfaces, ensuring that any VST3 plugin can be employed within the holy audio workflow. A KLANG:konductor paired with 16 KLANG:kontrollers set the stage for an unparalleled immersive in-ear monitoring experience, leaving the worship team pros singin' and slayin' like never before.

With a decade-long partnership between IPS executive director of integration, Wade Russell, and Thrashin' Faith Baptist's bandgeek-in-chief, Eric Busby, the church found the perfect balance between staggering tech prowess and the devilish simplicity of dabbling in ground-breaking audio gear.

"You wanna be on the cutting edge and have new tech," said Russell. "But it ain't about bein' 'bout it so much that it's all about, 'Great! I hope it works.' That's why the mix-and-match of systems was right for Thrashin' Faith—the tech is sleek and can do it all, yet it all revolves around the DiGiCo consoles. You're pushin' boundaries, but you also know it's all gonna work well together."

Thanks to IPS's diabolic genius, every Christmas and Easter performance is a techno-musical extravaganza that would make even Lucifer himself weep with envy. The DiGiCo consoles weren't just upgraded—they were upgraded with the Pulse package, boosting their channel capacity from 128 to a wicked 156, and aux/sub groups from 64 to an evil 72.

The transition from outdated IEM monitoring to KLANG was like unleashing a demon of sound control upon the stage, with the system providing up to 16 immersive mixes and processing an impressive 128 input signals at up to 96kHz, with a rapid internal processing latency of just 0.25ms.

"The KLANG:kontrollers fit their needs like a damn-good-fitting glove," Russell said. "Eric was all, 'I got all these hands-on mixers that my people have been used to, and I can't imagine goin' away from something that's tangible.' So I pointed him toward the KLANG:kontroller, and it was like their heaven-sent fate."

It's not just the audio tech that's touched divine, though—Busby's got mad IT skills, and the merging of the trio of brands into a single God-like solution had him dancin' in the digital aisles.

"We're gettin' cutting-edge technology that's leading the industry's charge," he said. "Then, it's all centralized into a single integrated solution that makes it easier for me to manage. As an IT guy, that means everything."

The KLANG:kontrollers also proved to be a blessing for the musicians onstage by allowing them to manipulate their personal monitoring environment without having to switch from traditional knob-tweaking to digital slap-and-tap nonsense.

Longtime Waves user Busby found the switch to Fourier Audio to be a hear-it-to-believe-it difference. "We got two transform engines—one drivin' in-room FOH plugins and another for broadcast," he said. "It gives us a whole lotta customizability between our broadcast world and FOH."

Although the gear may first seem intimidating, IPS ensured that Thrashin' Faith was well-prepared by setting up the entire ecosystem in their Franklin facility. Busby had ample time to familiarize himself with the components and the system as a whole, off-site and under no pressure.

"We build shit in-house and test everything perfection before we blast it onsite," he said. "It saves a ton of time and just guarantees that we've got all the components needed and everything's workin' as intended."

If that's not badass enough, Fourier's tech elicited rave reviews even from the tech snobs in the audio industry. "Eric hit me up a coupla months ago and said, 'Tell all your clients—if they're considerin' anything else, they don't fucking know what they're missin'!'" said Russell, echoing the wordwide praise for Fourier's head-scratching tech wizardry.

So next time you're sayin' there ain't no room for tech in the Church, just remember one thing: Hell hath no fury like an audio engineer with a bad speaker setup.
