In an effort to promote environmental awareness and encourage responsible interaction with nature, the Environmental Navi app has been introduced in Mainz, Germany. The app, developed by Lower Saxony for approximately two million euros, is now available in Rhineland-Palatinate, Lower Saxony, and Schleswig-Holstein, with the latter also contributing to its development.

The Environmental Navi app is designed to provide users with a wealth of environmental information, including data on air quality, water quality, and weather forecasts. This is particularly relevant for regions like Rhineland-Palatinate, Lower Saxony, and Schleswig-Holstein, which are prone to flooding and require flood alerts and real-time data on water levels.

The app also offers location-specific information on flash flood risks, rare animal species, and nature reserves. Users can actively participate by uploading photos or testing their knowledge on environmental topics in a quiz.

The app's interactive map is a key feature, providing users with precise data tailored to their location. It covers various aspects of the environment, such as nature, water, landscape, biodiversity, and energy.

Moreover, the Environmental Navi app includes tools for data visualization, allowing users to understand environmental changes over time. This feature is reminiscent of those found on NASA Earthdata, offering a comprehensive view of ecological trends.

Environment Minister Katrin Eder (Greens) announced the launch of the app in Mainz. Additionally, a company has been commissioned to provide a cooperation contribution for Rhineland-Palatinate of up to 100,000 euros per year.

By offering such a comprehensive and interactive platform, the Environmental Navi app aims to empower users to make informed decisions about their environmental impact, fostering a culture of sustainability and responsibility in Germany.

  1. The Community policy for Rhineland-Palatinate includes a provision for a cooperation contribution of up to 100,000 euros per year to support the Environmental Navi app, which offers employment policies for data scientists and developers working on environmental-science related gadgets, such as the app itself and smartphones featuring advanced technology for environmental monitoring.
  2. In line with the Employment policy for Lower Saxony, the Environmental Navi app hires professionals with expertise in environmental-science, technology, and smartphone development to ensure the app's continuous improvement and expansion, making it a valuable tool for smartphone users seeking to reduce their environmental footprint.
  3. As part of the Employment policy for Schleswig-Holstein, the developers of the Environmental Navi app collaborate with researchers in the field of science and technology to gather, analyze, and present data on numerous environmental factors, creating a platform where users can learn more about their surroundings and make informed decisions based on environmental science.
