Ray-Ban's Leaked Display Glasses poised to style-wise outdo Google, Samsung, and Amazon in the tech race
Meta and Amazon Prepare to Unveil Next-Generation Smart Glasses
In the world of wearable technology, the race to develop the most advanced smart glasses is heating up. Meta, the social media giant, and Amazon, the e-commerce behemoth, are set to announce their next-generation smart glasses at separate events.
Meta's Ray-Ban Meta Display glasses are rumored to offer a significant upgrade over the existing Ray-Ban Smart glasses. These new glasses are expected to be announced at Meta Connect 2025, where Meta also plans to unveil a new line of Optical and Sunglasses Ray-Bans complete with Meta technology.
The Ray-Ban Meta Display glasses are said to feature a display embedded in at least one of the lenses, along with cameras for augmented reality (AR) capabilities. Meta's decade-long investment of around $70 billion into AR/VR research is about to pay off with these innovative glasses.
Amazon, on the other hand, is hosting a new hardware event and is expected to announce next-generation Echo Frames. Like the Ray-Ban Meta Display glasses, the new Echo Frames are rumored to cost $800 and offer similar functionality, including cameras and a display embedded in at least one of the lenses.
It remains to be seen if consumers will choose Amazon-branded glasses over Ray-Bans for the same price. Meta's smart glasses have been well-received and are expected to continue impressing customers.
Meanwhile, Meta is also expected to announce a sportier pair of Oakley smart glasses in the company's trademark Sphaera visor form factor. Google, too, is partnering with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster to make smart glasses for popular eyewear brands.
Interestingly, Meta is involving EssilorLuxottica brands Ray-Ban and Oakley in smart glasses development, but Google has never partnered with Oakley or Ray-Ban before. Meta is also rumored to be targeting Prada wearers for future smart glasses, potentially with a higher price tag.
By 2027, Meta is expected to launch the next-generation full-featured hologram glasses called 'Orion'. In the meantime, the current display glasses are expected to sell over 100,000 units by the end of 2026. No other specific brands beyond Ray-Ban and Oakley from EssilorLuxottica are mentioned by Meta for smart glasses development in the available sources.
As the smart glasses market continues to evolve, it will be exciting to see how these new offerings from Meta, Amazon, Google, and others shape the future of wearable technology.
