PsiQuantum Expands Quantum Computing Operations, Enters Validation Phase with DARPA
PsiQuantum, a trailblazing quantum computing company, is expanding its operations with a new 120,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Milpitas, California. This move coincides with the US government's increased focus on quantum computing, with the Department of Defense backing tangible roadmaps for the technology.
PsiQuantum has entered the validation phase of its Utility-Scale Quantum Computing program with DARPA. This phase will test the scalability of the company's quantum cryogenic module at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. The aim is to create a modular architecture with fault tolerance through quantum error-correcting codes. This could transform critical industries such as drug discovery, finance, and energy grid management.
The company is also deploying two quantum data centers, one in Brisbane, Australia and another in Chicago, Illinois. These centers will test applications in a controlled environment, demonstrating the practical use of quantum computing. PsiQuantum uses photons as carriers of quantum information, promising faster gate speeds and lower error rates. DARPA's evaluation team will assess the end-to-end performance of PsiQuantum's hardware, including qubit count, inter-qubit communication, error correction latency, and energy consumption.
PsiQuantum's expansion and validation phase mark significant steps in the development of quantum computing. As the US seeks to maintain its technological superiority and economic security, successful demonstration of PsiQuantum's technology could have profound implications for various industries and national defence.
