The much-anticipated IT 2.0 digital upgrade in post offices across Ludhiana, launched on August 5, has encountered a series of technical issues, increased manual work, and operational problems. The new system, initially promised to provide stronger digital security, faster service, and a better user experience, has fallen short of expectations.

Key contributing factors include repeated server crashes and system freezes during peak hours, slow processing speeds, and operational challenges linked to the added features in the updated system. These issues have resulted in disruptions in parcel bookings, money order payments, and invoice processing.

The upgrade rollout coincided with peak festive periods, exacerbating the impact due to high service demand and large customer volumes. As a result, small parcel bookings can stretch into a 20 to 30-minute wait, and sometimes require a return visit the next day. Transactions can freeze mid-process, requiring cancellation and restart, leading to customer frustration and disputes.

Despite these challenges, the local unit of All India Gramin Dak Sevaks Union (AIGDSU) has written a letter to the department of posts regarding the new Internal App 2.0. The union has urged the department for quick fixes and concrete solutions, citing the increased manual work for staff and disruptions to routine services.

According to a senior postmaster, most problems stem from backend software complications rather than hardware or network infrastructure. A head office employee reported that these issues not only delay work but also create a stressful and chaotic atmosphere at the counters.

In rural belts of Ludhiana, the app often shows "server busy" or freezes, causing delays in service. Some transactions, like AEPS (Aadhaar-based payments), are not recorded properly in the new system, adding to the confusion. Other services, according to Balbir Singh, are functioning normally.

Residents have expressed frustration over the constant breakdowns, as deliveries now take longer than before. Despite these challenges, the union remains hopeful that the department will address these issues promptly and restore the promised benefits of the IT 2.0 digital upgrade.
