OpenAI Unveils Suite of New Tools, Transforming ChatGPT into a Powerful Developer Platform
OpenAI has unveiled a suite of new tools at its Developer Day, transforming ChatGPT into a versatile platform for developers. The event saw the introduction of the Apps SDK, GPT-5 Pro, and updates to AgentKit, among other announcements.
ChatGPT's user base has surged to over 800 million weekly users, with four million developers actively working on the platform. API traffic has reached six billion tokens per minute. To support this growth, OpenAI has introduced the Apps SDK, turning ChatGPT into an interactive platform for third-party apps. This new feature allows apps to run in full-screen view and interact dynamically with the model.
OpenAI has also published its most powerful language model to date, GPT-5 Pro, in the API. This model boasts a context window of 400,000 tokens and can generate up to 272,000 output tokens. It is priced at $15 per million input tokens and $120 for output tokens.
AgentKit, a comprehensive toolkit for developing, deploying, and optimizing AI agents, has been updated with Agent Builder, a visual tool for modeling complex workflows. This tool is currently in beta.
Several partners have joined the ChatGPT ecosystem. At launch, apps from Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Expedia, Figma, Spotify, and Zillow are available. Kakao, a large messenger app in Korea, is also integrating with ChatGPT. OpenAI has announced 11 additional partners joining soon, though specific names have not been disclosed.
OpenAI has also introduced two new affordable models: gpt-realtime-mini, around 70% cheaper than the previous real-time API, and gpt-image-1-mini, an affordable variant of OpenAI's image processing model. Additionally, Codex, the AI-powered coding assistant, is now generally available with new features including Slack integration and an SDK for integration into workflows.
OpenAI's Developer Day has brought significant updates to ChatGPT, expanding its capabilities and accessibility. With new tools, powerful models, and growing partnerships, ChatGPT continues to evolve as a robust platform for developers and users alike.
