OpenAI Launches Instant Checkout in ChatGPT for Seamless Shopping
OpenAI has rolled out Instant Checkout in ChatGPT, enabling users to shop directly within the app. The feature, initially available in the U.S., is powered by the Agentic Commerce Protocol developed with Stripe.
Instant Checkout ranks products purely on relevance to the user's query, without favouring items eligible for Instant Checkout. Currently, U.S.-based ChatGPT Pro, Plus, and Free users can use it to buy from U.S. Etsy sellers, with Shopify merchants joining soon. Over one million Shopify merchants, including Glossier, SKIMS, Spanx, and Vuori, are planned to join, with further expansion to more merchants and regions.
Users can pay using credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Stripe's Link. Pro and Plus subscribers enjoy faster checkout with pre-filled details. ChatGPT acts as a personal shopping assistant, providing curated product options with images, prices, and direct links based on user queries. Users can track their purchases directly within the app, from order confirmation to shipping updates. Merchants handle order processing and delivery after users confirm order details, shipping address, and payment method within ChatGPT.
OpenAI invites merchants to join Instant Checkout by applying through its dedicated merchant portal. Etsy and Shopify merchants are already integrated. The feature is initially limited to U.S. users and merchants, with plans to expand user and merchant geographies next year.
