Online retail giant Kaufland expands its digital presence, now offering its services on Kaufland.fr, catering to France's online shopping market.
Kaufland, a leading European retailer, has announced the launch of its online marketplace in France, marking its sixth marketplace country. This move comes as part of Kaufland's ambitious growth plan to significantly expand its e-commerce presence across the continent.
In France, Kaufland.fr offers customers access to over three million products across more than 6,400 categories. The platform already has 2,800 retailers signed up, providing sellers with the opportunity to reach buyers in France and six other European markets.
According to Gerald Schönbucher, CEO of Kaufland e-commerce, the goal is to provide customers with a similar range of products as in Germany, where 45 million items are available. This aligns with Kaufland's ambition to become the top European platform in France for French traders to sell their products nationally and internationally.
In addition to France, Kaufland is preparing to launch its marketplace in Italy, which is expected to add approximately 22 million online shoppers to its reach.
For comparison, in Germany, Kaufland’s marketplace already offers about 45 million items and attracts around 32 million monthly visitors. Across six existing countries (before France and Italy), about 13,000 retailers are active on the Kaufland marketplace, with access to 81 million online customers.
Kaufland positions its marketplace as a European alternative to global e-commerce giants, offering European retailers straightforward access to cross-border sales with services like product data translation and legal support. The marketplace operates on a collaborative model, working with other traders.
Payment methods on Kaufland.fr include PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, invoice and installment payment, and credit card. Customers can find all relevant information about each trader, including product details, on Kaufland.fr. The platform also provides customer service support in the local language via a hotline or contact form.
Customers in France will receive their goods directly from the trader on Kaufland.fr, ensuring a seamless shopping experience. This expansion is part of Kaufland’s wider e-commerce growth within the Schwarz Group, which operates over 1,600 stores in eight countries and has been investing heavily in online and offline retail infrastructure.
