Nio's L90 deliveries commence; test drive vehicles expanded to one thousand

The Nio Onvo L90 SUV, a new sub-brand model from Nio, has made its debut in China with a bang. Deliveries for the six-seat version started on August 1, 2025, just a day after its launch event in Hangzhou.

Nio has pre-produced an initial batch of approximately 10,000 to 20,000 units to meet early demand, enabling a swift start to deliveries. This strategic move has paid off, as the L90 sold 1,976 units within the first 72 hours, positioning it among the top-selling large SUVs in China for that period.

Delivery wait times have extended recently due to sustained demand rather than production issues. As of August 8, 2025, estimated delivery windows for the six-seat trims have been extended to 8–10 weeks, with deliveries expected between October 3 and October 17 for new orders. The seven-seat version's delivery is scheduled to begin in late September, also with an 8–10 week wait time.

Onvo's production is running at full capacity, with factories operating day and night to keep up with the strong demand. The company's leadership reported the Hefei factory working overtime to accelerate production and deliveries. Over 70% of customers opt for the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) plan, indicating strong interest in flexible battery solutions.

Nio has set ambitious delivery targets for the Onvo L90. The goal is to exceed 10,000 L90 deliveries in August 2025, which would be a new monthly sales record, surpassing Nio's previous best with the ES6 model at 11,118 units in a single month. Further, founder William Li has targeted about 25,000 units delivered monthly during the fourth quarter, aiming for a total of 75,000 Onvo L90s from October through December 2025.

The Onvo L90's competitive pricing, starting around RMB 265,800 (approximately USD 36,860) with battery included, and its battery-swapping capability, contribute to its strong market reception.

Onvo began pre-sales of the L90 on July 10, and as of this morning, there are still finished L90 vehicles available. To reduce waiting times, Onvo increased the number of vehicles available for test drives to 1,000, with test drive vehicles available in more than 400 showrooms covering 140 cities. Yesterday, Onvo added 400 vehicles for test drives, bringing the total number to 1,000.

The L90 SUV comes standard with an 85-kWh battery pack, unlike the L60 which can be upgraded. The price of the L90 SUV was reduced by RMB 14,100 from its previous pre-sales price. The L90 vehicles used for test drives are equipped with 60-kWh battery packs, but Onvo's team is conducting further research to determine if the 60-kWh battery pack will be available for the L90.

Deliveries were overseen by Onvo's founder, chairman, and CEO William Li. The first L90 vehicles delivered are six-seaters, with seven-seaters to follow in late September. Li visited an Onvo delivery center in Xiaoshan, Zhejiang province to hand over L90 vehicles to 21 owners. The L90 SUV was first delivered in 44 cities across China.

In summary, the Nio Onvo L90 SUV has made a strong entrance into the Chinese market with rapid deliveries, strong demand, and ambitious sales targets. The company's aggressive production and delivery plans, combined with the L90's competitive pricing and battery-swapping capability, have contributed to its strong market reception.
