Nintendo Sound Clock Alarm Feature Unveiled in Ask the Developer Vol. 14: A Deep Dive into Alarmo's Design - Part 1
Nintendo, the renowned video game company, has stepped into a new realm with the release of their latest product - the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo. This unique alarm clock, developed by Nintendo, is the result of extensive research into motion sensor technology within the company.
The project was spearheaded by Yosuke Tamori, a member of the Entertainment Planning & Development Department, who served as the producer for Alarmo. Tetsuya Akama, a member of the Technology Development Department, joined the project as the director.
The Alarmo features a motion sensor that can detect a person's movement in bed, even when they are covered with a comforter. This sensor is a radio wave sensor that measures distance and speed of objects, allowing it to function effectively in dark rooms and even when there are obstacles. It can recognize very subtle movements, providing better privacy while ensuring accurate detection.
The developers experimented with various prototypes, including detecting arm movements, dividing the bed's area into left and right to detect the direction you roll over, and making the alarm stoppable by stretching. These experiments led to the improved responsiveness of the sensor, allowing it to detect a person's movements more accurately.
The Alarmo also comes with a range of features designed to enhance the user's sleep experience. It can play music to help create a relaxing environment before sleep and track sleep and wake-up times. Moreover, it repeatedly tries to wake the person up while they are in bed to prevent oversleeping. The alarm sounds use music and sound effects from selected Nintendo games, adding a touch of fun to the morning routine.
As a testament to Nintendo's commitment to detailed, high-quality sound design and user experience, the sound effects in Alarmo are engineered to be pleasant and non-repetitive. This reflects Nintendo's broader audio design practices, where material sounds have multiple sound variations to enhance realism and user experience.
The Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo is now available from October 9th. With its innovative features and commitment to quality, Alarmo is set to revolutionize the alarm clock industry.
