Nintendo's pricing strategy for the Mario Galaxy games on Switch 2 leaves me unsurprised yet disheartened.

Nintendo, it's time to reconsider the high costs of classic games

In a highly anticipated September Nintendo Direct, the gaming giant revealed a Switch 2 Edition of the beloved game Mario Wonder, along with the return of the Galaxy series. The upcoming Super Mario Galaxy movie was also mentioned, adding to the excitement.

The enhanced ports of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 for the Switch and Switch 2 are causing controversy due to their pricing. Nintendo will charge $40 for each individual title, with the Super Mario Galaxy + Mario Galaxy 2 bundle priced at $70.

While some believe that the quality of Nintendo's games doesn't degrade over time, the author suggests that consumers should always push for the best deal possible. From a consumer standpoint, Nintendo should cool it with how it prices its classic and older games.

Nintendo's philosophy is that it is trying to maintain its high brand value by pricing its products. Shigeru Miyamoto detailed plans for Mario's 450th birthday celebration, hinting at potential exclusive content for the Galaxy games.

The first Galaxy game can only be played by owning a copy for the Wii or purchasing the 3D All-Stars bundle. Galaxy 2 hasn't been available on modern consoles until now, making this announcement particularly exciting for fans of the series.

The author believes that Nintendo isn't anti-consumer in its pricing strategy, but rather is playing the market. If consumers aren't buying Nintendo's products at the prices set, the prices would fall. The author, however, is not going to support the Super Mario Galaxy + Mario Galaxy 2 bundle on Switch 2 due to its price.

The only question consumers need to ask themselves is if the bundle is worth it to them. The September Nintendo Direct was considered one of the best presentations in years, and the return of both Galaxy games is a testament to Nintendo's commitment to delivering quality gaming experiences.

As always, it's up to consumers to decide whether the pricing is justified for the content they receive. The enhanced ports of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 for the Switch and Switch 2 are now available for pre-order, with a release date set for October 2, 2025.
