Next BMW M3 Sedan Drops Manual, Adds Hybrid Power
BMW has revealed details about the upcoming M3 Sedan. The next-generation model will mark several changes, including the end of the manual gearbox and the introduction of hybrid technology.
The new M3 will debut with an eight-speed automatic transmission and xDrive all-wheel drive, signaling the end of the six-speed manual gearbox in BMW M's lineup. Under the hood, the car is expected to start with around 525 horsepower, with later variants potentially reaching between 530 and 560 horsepower.
The heart of the next M3 will be a 48-volt mild-hybrid system paired with a 3.0-liter inline-six engine, likely the enhanced S58 engine featuring an integrated electric motor. This blend of traditional power and electric assistance is set to preserve the M3's agility and responsiveness.
The first spy photos have captured an early prototype of the next-generation M3 Sedan. The model showcases widened fenders and M-specific hardware, such as cross-drilled brake discs and M aluminum rims. The prototype also debuts a new, elongated horizontal grille design, moving away from the current oversized kidney grille.
BMW M CEO Frank van Meel has confirmed the next-generation ICE M3 Sedan, expected to arrive after 2028. The model will blend BMW's inline-six heritage with hybrid technology, ensuring a balance between performance and efficiency.
The next M3 Sedan promises significant changes, including the end of the manual gearbox and the introduction of hybrid technology. With an expected output of around 525 horsepower and a new design, the next M3 is set to maintain BMW M's reputation for high-performance driving.
