New model VW ID.4 to assume leadership role within VW's ID line-up starting from 2026.
Volkswagen to Overhaul ID.4 and ID.3 Electric Models
Volkswagen is set to revamp its electric vehicle lineup, with the ID.4 and ID.3 set for a comprehensive overhaul. The marketing chief of VW, Thomas Schäfer, has announced that the updated ID.4 for 2026 will be "really beautiful" and "completely overhauled inside and out."
The ID.4, currently the brand's mid-size SUV, will be the "big brother" of the ID. Cross, set to hit the market next year. In potential future offerings, the ID.4 may be referred to as ID. Tiguan.
The updated ID.3 and ID.4 are expected to benefit from efficiency and performance improvements based on technology used in recently launched models like the ID.7. The compact ID.3 will also undergo a similar comprehensive overhaul.
Kai Grunitz, VW's development chief, has indicated that the interior of the new ID.4 will be extensively revised, including the reintroduction of physical buttons and knobs. The design of the updated ID.4 will align with the ID. Cross Concept.
Volkswagen will likely move away from the very short front ends of its first pure electric models, including the ID.3, in the update. The brand's electric cars are moving towards aligning with VW's regular models in appearance. The ID.4 will be visually aligned with VW's new generation of electric cars.
The extensive revamp of the ID.4 is aimed at maintaining high demand for the electric equivalent of the Tiguan. Details of the plans for the ID.4 update are yet to be revealed.
In other news, an ID. Golf is expected to be launched, and the coupé version of the ID.4, the ID.5, is likely to be discontinued. The updated ID.3 will be unveiled in the second quarter of next year.
Interestingly, the ID.2all will not be ID.2, but ID. Polo in production. The ID. family of electric cars is poised for an exciting future, with improvements and updates set to make them more appealing to a wider audience.
Stay tuned for more updates as Volkswagen continues to shape the future of electric vehicles.
