New guidelines for earning revenue on YouTube

Starting **July 15, 2025**, YouTube is implementing new global monetization requirements to combat unoriginal, mass-produced, and repetitious videos. These changes will impact all creators worldwide, including those in Mexico.

The key points of the new requirements are as follows:

1. **Originality and Authenticity:** Creators must produce original and authentic content to remain eligible for monetization. YouTube is drawing a hard line against reused, repetitive, or low-effort content that lacks clear added value.

2. **Restrictions on Borrowed Content:** Channels relying on reaction videos, AI-generated commentary, clip compilations, or near-duplicate videos will be particularly affected. To qualify for monetization, creators must add significant value through commentary, editing, or other creative input to any reused content.

3. **Mass-Produced and Repetitious Content:** The policy explicitly targets mass-produced and repetitious videos, which may meet previous guidelines but fail YouTube's standards for originality and viewer benefit. Such content risks demonetization or removal from the YouTube Partner Program.

4. **Enforcement:** Failure to meet these originality standards may lead to full loss of monetization privileges, not just video-specific demonetization warnings.

5. **Global Application:** These changes apply globally, affecting creators including those in Mexico, as YouTube updates its Partner Program policies worldwide to ensure all monetized content aligns with these standards.

Creators have a few weeks before the July 15 deadline to review and adapt their content strategies to comply with these updated monetization guidelines. Users are advised to check their status in YouTube Studio and stay informed through the YouTube Help Center.

Additionally, videos that use AI to create voices, images, or scripts must declare it explicitly. Content generated by AI that lacks creativity or originality could be excluded from monetization. The complete details of the new YouTube monetization requirements will be announced starting July 15.

It's important to note that content on YouTube should be created for entertainment or educational purposes, not just for monetization. All creators are encouraged to produce high-quality, unique content that benefits their viewers.

Technology will play a significant role in the new YouTube monetization requirements, as content generated by AI will be scrutinized for its creativity and originality. Creators must declare AI-generated content explicitly to remain eligible for monetization, steering away from content that lacks uniqueness or added value.
