In a significant stride towards sustainability, Munich Airport's operator, FMG, has unveiled its ambitious "Net Zero 2035" strategy. The goal is to eliminate all climate-damaging CO2 emissions from the airport's operations by 2035.

One of the key components of this strategy is the harnessing of renewable energy. At peak times, the photovoltaic systems installed on airport buildings generate around seven megawatts of electricity. This clean energy contributes significantly to the airport's overall energy needs.

FMG is also making strides in electric mobility. There are currently over 1,140 charging points at Munich Airport, catering to electric vehicles and devices used on the aprons. By 2030, the airport aims to increase this output to around 50 megawatts through additional systems on roofs and open spaces.

The charging park at Munich Airport is more than just a collection of charging stations. It links energy generation, mobility, and power grid infrastructure, serving as a testament to FMG's commitment to a sustainable future.

Moreover, FMG is not only focusing on reducing its own emissions but is also working to minimise the emissions of third parties, such as those generated by travel to and from the airport.

However, information about the financial backing of the project for the largest electric charging site at Munich Airport remains undisclosed.

Despite this, it is clear that Munich Airport's charging park plays a crucial role in its climate protection strategy. By reducing emissions from energy generation and vehicle operation, and by promoting the use of electric vehicles, FMG is demonstrating its commitment to a greener future.
