Mullen (MULN) Announcements: Bollinger Motors Collaborations, CARB HVIP Approvals, and University Purchases (Partnerships, California Air Resources Board approvals for High-Volume Incentive Program, and orders from universities)
In recent developments, Bollinger Innovations, a pioneering company in the electric vehicle (EV) industry, has consolidated its operations under the new corporate name, Bollinger Innovations, Inc. This move comes after the merger with Mullen Automotive and follows significant purchases by prestigious institutions such as Princeton University, the University of Virginia, and the University of North Carolina.
The consolidated company is now based in Oak Park, Michigan, and is focusing on the development, production, and distribution of Class 1, 3, and 4 commercial EVs. As part of this strategy, Bollinger Innovations has established a dealer network of over 50 locations across the US to support sales and service of its electric trucks, including the Bollinger B4, a Class 4 electric truck launched in September 2024.
While specific new strategic partnerships beyond this dealer network have not been explicitly detailed, Bollinger Innovations is positioning its vehicles to be competitive with government subsidies. The company offers a $7,500 price adjustment on the Mullen-branded Class 1 and Class 3 commercial EVs, which will be rebranded as Bollinger vehicles starting 2026, matching the federal tax incentive. However, exact CARB HVIP credits are not cited.
Bollinger Innovations is also making strides in the government sector, having partnered with National Auto Fleet Group (NAFG) to supply its all-electric Class 4 Bollinger B4 trucks to government entities. The agreement provides Bollinger Motors with greater access to government contracts through Sourcewell, a cooperative purchasing organization.
In the higher education market, Bollinger's commercial EVs are contributing to reducing carbon footprints on college campuses. Mullen Automotive, the former parent company of Bollinger Motors, has secured EV orders from leading universities in California, including those in Los Angeles and Berkeley.
The Bollinger B4 offers a range of 185 miles, a payload capacity of 7,394 lbs., and a unique chassis design for enhanced durability and safety. The B4 Chassis Cab, a Class 4 electric truck, has qualified for California's Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP), offering incentives of up to $100,000 per vehicle when combined with Inflation Reduction Act incentives.
Bollinger Motors is collaborating with Our Next Energy for battery supply, ensuring the company's vehicles are compliant with U.S. safety and emissions standards and are eligible for significant incentives, including federal tax credits and state-specific rebates.
As Bollinger Motors prepares to start production on September 16, 2024, it continues to establish itself as a key player in the commercial EV market, particularly for government and municipal fleets. The partnership with NAFG, a trusted vendor for government and municipal fleets, sees the B4 as a critical addition to support electrification strategies across its clients.
